Sickos

Second sick day this week. I shouldn't complain, because this virus is all in all an easy one. It's just fever, some cough, and congestion. But, it's icky and gray out, I'm missing church, and I want spring. I got the Sunday blahs.

Lutsen 2011

We are just back from a lovely trip to Lutsen with two other families. Two of the three days of skiing were great (day one was excessively windy), and the company was fabulous. As always, I should have taken more pictures. Here are the few I did take.

This Girl...

is really making life interesting lately. An inappropriate valentine, an incident on the bus (a story that's entirely too long to even post), her new habit of starting every sentence with "DUDE," and her ever-sassy demeanor have me at my wit's end. I love her zest for life, but she's totally wearing me out. DUDE, she's totally wearing me out.

The Dreaded Call

I hate it when this shows up on the caller ID. There's really no chance of a good outcome. Either someone's puking, the school's been set on fire, or someone's in trouble. Today was the latter. Elise talked another student into putting something grossly inappropriate (involving male genitalia) on a valentine. I'm beyond mortified. It's not going to be a fun night at my house.

In all Fairness

When my better half saw the post about Jerod's room, he thought I was unfairly singling Jerod out. He's right. We're having a little gathering of some folks from our church on Sunday evening, and I'm going in. If you don't hear from me by the weekend, please send in a search party.

Now, before you go getting all judgey, judgey on me, know this: Both these pictures represent particularly bad cases of room cleaning neglect. It's not usually quite this bad (though I shamefully admit that their rooms could rarely, if ever, be called clean).

At any rate, ARC's got a big donation coming their way.

Genes can be Cruel

As I age, the list of things I'm certain of is ever-shrinking. One thing, however, that I am certain of is this: The characteristics of my children that make me the absolutely craziest are those that come directly from their dear ol' mom. Like this:

I am not, have never been, and never will be a neat and organized person. Having children has only exaggerated this fact of my life. This bedroom, though, seriously?!? His sister's is all this and more.

And the Winner is...

The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks

I didn't even read the other sample, because this one instantly drew me in. I think maybe because it appeals simultaneously to both my bleeding heart liberal and my science nerd sensitivities.

Living the Dream

At A Glance image

The holiday season was very good to me, on many levels. I could elaborate on that, but for now, I'll just say that I got a Kindle. I had wanted one for some time, but couldn't really find a reason to spend the money. Hooray for my groovy husband! Like everyone I know that has one, I love, love, love this thing. Ample reading material that fits perfectly in my purse and is always at the ready... what's not to love?!
I stole the title of this post from my friend Danielle, who once wrote a post about hers. She told about how you could get a free sample of a book before committing to purchasing it; thus having a pretty darn good idea if you really wanted to read the whole thing before shelling out the bucks. She finished the post with something like, "I'm living the dream, folks." I should link to the post, but I'm too lazy. You get the idea.
I now know exactly how she feels. I finished a book today and was really torn about what to read next. I have a long 'want to read' list, but narrowed it down to two. No problemo, because I just ordered the two free samples. Can't wait to read them and make my final decision. I'm living the dream folks.
